MANILA - The Department of Public Works and Highways on Tuesday reopened the Otis Bridge in Paco to light vehicles after over 5 months of repair, hoping to ease the expected Christmas rush traffic.
The bridge, which extends over Estero de Paco near Malacañang Park, was closed last June after cracks appeared on its lanes. A temporary pedestrian bridge was constructed during the repair.
The DPWH said the repair of the bridge cost around P33 million. The retrofitting of the Otis Bridge is the first time it received any kind of maintenance since it was constructed in 1986.
It was originally scheduled to be renovated last 2016 but it was moved back due to MMDA's request for traffic consideration for the building of Quirino Skyway.
