ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday intercepted an estimated P300,000 worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes from a ship docked at the city’s port.

The illegal goods were on board a commercial vessel from Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

Ensign Nelvin Jazo, Deputy Station Commander of PCG Zamboanga, said reports from sources prompted them to verify information that led to the successful operation.

The cigarettes, placed inside 6 sacks and passed off as dried fish, were found inside a container van.

The PCG will turn over the goods to the Bureau of Customs for inventory.
