MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday gave offshore gaming operators 3 days to pay up their tax liabilities as he warned Chinese businessmen against deceiving Filipinos.

Duterte said owners of Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs) should immediately settle their tax liabilities with the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

"Bayaran niyo ang mga utang niyo, kapag kayong mga POGO, barilin ko kayo nang de bomba," he said in an exclusive interview with CNN Philippines.

(Pay your dues or else I will shoot you.)

"You better settle that utang (debt) or else gawin ko kayong pugo (quail egg) p*t*ng*n*," he added.

Under the National Internal Revenue Code, the income of online casinos registered as domestic corporations is taxed as a whole while POGOs considered as foreign corporations are only taxed on income generated within the country.

The government has so far collected P1.63 billion in withholding taxes from POGOs from January to August, the Department of Finance said earlier this month, citing BIR data.

These online gaming firms paid P175 million in withholding taxes in 2017 and P579 million in 2018, the DOF said.
