MANILA—Authorities rescued 43 passengers and 8 crew members of a distressed motorized banca in the waters off Masbate on Wednesday.
The boat was on its way to Claveria town when its engine conked out, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
A crew member told authorities the automotive oil was mixed with seawater that led to engine failure.
Personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Aroroy town helped in the rescue.
The passengers and crew members were brought to the Aroroy Port.
