MANILA - The House of Representatives has ratified Monday the final version of the bill rescheduling the May 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
The ratified bill schedules the new date of the election to December 2022.
The bill will allow incumbent elected barangay and SK officials to continue implementing various policies and complete programs affected by the budget delays early this year.
Since the measure has likewise been ratified by the Senate, the final copy of the bill will be transmitted to Malacañang for President Rodrigo Duterte’s signature.
The elections were supposed to be held on May 11, 2020.
The last barangay elections were held in May 2018 by virtue of a law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte postponing the October 2017 polls.
If the bill is enacted into law, there will be two elections in 2022: the presidential elections in May and the synchronized barangay and SK elections seven months later.
