MANILA - The government's anti-illegal drugs committee welcomed Vice President Leni Robredo's decision to serve as its co-chairperson, its chief Aaron Aquino said Wednesday.

Aquino said all members of the inter-agency committee on anti-illegal drugs (ICAD) were "ecstatic" during their meeting.

"The members of ICAD are happy and we expect that she will make a call within the week and hopefully we can brief her on the accomplishments that were made by ICAD for the past years," said Aquino, who saw Robredo's acceptance in the news.

Aquino, who also heads the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, earlier said the Vice President could be a "good leader" for the ICAD's advocacy and rehabilitation and reintegration clusters.

"It doesn’t mean if she handles those 2 clusters she doesn't have any say on the other 2 clusters that I’m handling. She can put any program or maybe do something for the betterment of our committee," he said.

"As I’ve said to the members of the ICAD, let’s give our full support to the Vice President so that we can finally address the problem on illegal drugs working together."

Aquino had said he would support Robredo "100 percent" despite saying earlier that the vice president has "a lot of catching up to do and in the process PDEA is afraid that it will somehow derail its efforts and operations."
