President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday met Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari in Malacañang, hours after a local court temporarily suspended the arrest warrant against him.
Duterte, after giving a few words, also allowed Misuari to use the presidential podium for a speech, where the aging rebel leader narrated some of his experiences during the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos, as well to express his support for Duterte.
Misuari had an arrest warrant for the bloody 2013 Zamboanga City siege which left scores dead. A Pasig City court, however, suspended the arrest warrant.
Misuari led the siege in 2013 to protest the decision of the government of then-President Benigno Aquino III to hold talks with MNLF's breakaway group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
