MANILA - The family of slain Batuan Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III on Sunday said they would refile murder charges against the 4 suspects released by the Manila City Prosecutor last Thursday.
“Para sa akin highly irregular 'yung nangyari. Magre-refile ho talaga kami, pamilya Yuson magfa-file ng case. Kasi we were given only two days to prepare the affidavits.
Yuson was gunned down Wednesday while he was having breakfast at an eatery in Sampaloc, Manila.
The next day, the Manila Police District arrested 4 alleged gunmen identified by witnesses: Bradford Solis Fuerte, Juanito de luna Bustamante, Rigor Dela Cruz, and Junel Gomez Reyes.
However, just hours after the inquest proceedings, Deputy City Prosecutor Joselito Obejas ordered the four suspects to be released and referred the case for further investigation.
Marcaida said Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Sandra Cam was involved in the killing since Yuson's son ran against Cam's son in the May midterm elections.
Cam denied the claim and said she would file libel charges against the Yuson family.
During that time nakalaban ng anak ni (vice) mayor Yuson 'yung anak ni Sandra Cam, maraming threat,” Marcaida said.
Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., chief of Manila Police District, said he was frustrated by the court's decision to release the 4 suspects.
“Ginawa po namin ang lahat, nakita niyo naman 'yung proseso, hindi ko makita ano 'yung reason, but we leave it behind sa wisdom ng inquest prosecutor kung ano po ang nangyari,” he said.
Danao added that the police supports the Yuson family in exhausting all legal remedies to attain justice for the vice mayor’s death.
