MANILA -- The Senate increased the originally submitted 2018 proposed budget of the Office of the Ombudsman from P2.497 billion to P2.640 billion.
With nobody wanting to interpellate or question the budget, the Senate approved the P2.640 billion proposed budget in less than five minutes.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales begged off from being interviewed, but said the additional P143,653 million will fund the construction of a new building.
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto foresees a tedious discussion on the proposed budget of the Department of Health and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
This is due to the significant amount of money involved in the two department's projects, aside from the "unspent" fund of the two agencies.
"Malaking budget and involved eh. Ang DOH malaking pera ang involved kung saan ginagamit. Pano ginagamit at 'yung hindi ginagamit," Sotto said.
Aside from the budget of the Office of the Ombudsman, the Senate also approved the P33.783 billion proposed budget of the judiciary and the P11.228 billion budget of the Commission on Audit.
