A woman believed to be an Abu Sayyaf fighter is in military custody after her group clashed with government troops in Sitio Kan Pataw, Barangay Upper Sinuman in Talipao town, Sulu Sunday afternoon.
Reports from the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) said the woman sustained shrapnel wounds during a 20-minute firefight between 30 Abu Sayyaf members and the 2nd Special Forces Battalion. She was brought to a hospital in Jolo, Sulu for immediate medical treatment.
Troops also recovered a body believed to be of an Abu militant after the incident.
Joint Task Force Sulu Commander Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr. said the woman was abandoned by her group after the firefight.
Meanwhile, the military is on full alert following the spread of a supposed report on an alleged plan to attack highly urbanized cities.
Wesmincom spokesperson Maj. Arvin John Encinas said they are investigating who leaked the confidential document. The military also called on the public to remain vigilant.
