MANILA—The House Committee on Agriculture and Food will prioritize measures seeking to authorize the use of rice subsidy from different government agencies for the purchase of palay (unhusked rice) from local farmers, Quezon City 1st District Rep. Wilfrido Enverga said Wednesday.

"We will tackle this during the break. We will set a meeting during the one month recess of Congress," committee chairperson Enverga said when the lower chamber tackled the proposed joint resolutions.

"Harvest season ngayon… Kailangan immediate," Gabriela party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas added.

Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. also proposed that beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) should be given actual rice bought from local farmers instead of cash.

Meanwhile, majority leader Martin Romualdez and Tingog Sinirangan party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez filed a resolution urging government agencies, in coordination with the National Food Authority and Department of Agriculture, to directly buy palay of local farmers for the rice subsidy program.
