MANILA - Party-list lawmaker John Bertiz has filed a resolution seeking a legislative inquiry into the viral confrontation with a security screener at the country's main airport.

In a clip uploaded on several Facebook pages, the ACTS-OFW partylist representative can be seen passing through a metal detector at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 2 on Saturday, while refusing to remove his shoes.

He then raised what appeared to be his security ID, inches away from the face of a screener manning the area. The congressman snatched off the airport personnel's own ID, walking away with it and out of the video's frame.

In a resolution filed Tuesday, Bertiz urged the House ethics committee to look into the incident.

The lawmaker has claimed that the NAIA staff let some "Chinese-looking passengers," who were escorted by airport staff, breeze through the airport security check without taking off their shoes.

The incident, he said, was "spliced" off from the video that made rounds online.

However, a review of the video from 20 minutes prior to the incident found nothing that would support the lawmaker's claim, said Ed Monreal, general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority.

Bertiz has apologized for his behavior towards the airport screener, blaming stress and his "monthly period" for his attitude.

His comment on monthly period did not sit well with Gabriela party-list and some women.

Under House rules, the ethics committee can recommend punishment for members found to have violated the Code of Conduct for public officials, and for disorderly behavior.

The House may then reprimand, suspend or expel an erring member.

Bertiz last month also drew flak for joking that a new batch of engineers will not get their licenses from the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) if they are not familiar with Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, who was supposed to speak at their oath-taking ceremony.
