MANILA - Airport operations were suspended Wednesday afternoon as weather bureau PAGASA issued a lightning red alert for Metro Manila.
On its Facebook page, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Pagasa issued the alert at 2:26 pm.
"Flight and ground operations at NAIA are suspended," the MIAA said.
Operations will resume once PAGASA deems it safe to lift the alert, it added.
A thunderstorm advisory has been issued for Metro Manila where heavy to intense rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are being experienced in the region and several central and southern Luzon provinces such as Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon and Bataan.
The thunderstorm may last for 2 hours, it warned, and may affect nearby areas.
