MANILA -- Buhay Party List Rep. Lito Atienza said he would help a janitor who lost her job following a confrontation with a transgender woman over the use of a shopping mall restroom.

Atienza also called on fellow lawmakers to reject the SOGIE or Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression bills after its proponents supposedly used Gretchen Custodio Diez’s experience to press for its passage.

Diez, 28, filed a complaint against the management of the Quezon City mall after she was briefly detained for insisting on using the restroom for women. The female janitor lost her job.

"I’d like to offer you a job. Tutulungan kita makahanap ng bagong trabaho (I will help you find a job). Gumamit ka ng (you used) common sense," Atienza said.

"Ginigiit ng isang grupo na bagamat may bilang sila yung pinaglalaban nila para bagang baguhin natin ang pag-uugali, ang takbo ng buhay sa Pilipinas, na tanggapin natin at i-adjust natin ang lahat doon sa kanilang mungkahi at personal na kagustuhan. I'm talking about the LGBT community," he said.

(One group is insisting that though they are fighting for something, to seemingly change the attitude, way of life in the Philippines, that we should accept and everyone should adjust to all their suggestions and personal wishes.)

Television evangelist and CIBAC party-list Rep. Eddie Villanueva filed a resolution summoning the janitor to legislative inquiries into 13 House SOGIE bills.

"On hearings and interviews regarding this incident, the woman involved has been markedly absent, her side of the story given little, if any attention," said Villanueva, leader of the religious group Jesus Is Lord Movement.
