Soldier hurt after Abu Sayyaf bandits ambush teachers' convoy in Sulu

MANILA - One soldier was wounded after suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf fired at a convoy of teachers in the town of Patikul in Sulu on Friday, authorities said.

Private First Class Ferdinand Payumo was hurt in a suspected rifle grenade explosion. The incident happened at 7:50 a.m. along Sitio Kan Bangsawan in Barangay Kadday Mampallam.

Police personnel providing route security in another barangay immediately responded to the area. But they too were fired upon by the bandits.
