MANILA - Ten female foreign nationals illegally working in a bar in Malate, Manila were arrested on Thursday.
The arrest was announced on a video on Mayor Isko Moreno's Facebook page.
Police conducted surprise inspections after receiving intelligence reports that some establishments in the Ermita-Malate areas are being used as fronts for illegal drugs and other crimes.
The arrested foreign nationals, including Russians and Pakistanis, were found to be working as guest relations officers entertaining clients in one of the clubs.
Authorities are now coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration to determine the status of their visas in the country.
The City of Manila said the foreigners do not have work permits. The local government is set to file charges against the foreigners before the prosecutor’s office for working without permit.
