Banks want to raise a certain fee but the Central Bank says not so fast. Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:

Freezing fees
A hike in automated teller machines (ATM) fees is looming as the House of Representatives is poised to look into the increase. Reports said banks seek an increase interbank withdrawals by 50 percent, or from a maximum of P15 to P30. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Gov. Benjamin Diokno said the moratorium on any adjustment in the ATM fees has been lifted. But he added that an increase is not automatic since it has to go through the central bank anyway.

Freedom to navigate
Foreign Affairs Sec. Teodoro Locsin Jr. said he was informed foreign navies enjoy freedom of navigation through the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). He also asked expert Jay Batongbacal to check this. Locsin also said the Philippines cannot ban marine scientific research vessels under the UNCLOS. But he said these kinds of ships need the permission from our government.

Sulking while stuck
There were a number of suggestions to improve traffic given during Tuesday’s Senate hearing on the ban on provincial buses on EDSA. One is to allow the buses in during off-peak hours. Another is to transfer government offices out of the city. Finally, a law to impose the “no-garage-no-car” policy. But when is a solution forthcoming? Meanwhile, commuters are sulking while stuck in traffic.

Ghost treatments
The Senate will hold another legislative hearing, this time on the PhilHealth controversy involving payments from "ghost" dialysis patients. ANC is ready to air the hearing live.
