MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte will shoulder the funeral expenses of an 11-month-old child who died of biliary atresia, Sen. Bong Go said Monday.
Biliary atresia, a disease of the bile ducts, is the most common cause of end-stage liver disease and liver transplantation.
Duterte was present during the arrival of Eren Crisologo's remains from India on Sunday night in Davao, Go said.
The senator said Duterte sent the child to India for a transplant after his father, who is a member of the Philippine Army, sought help from them.
The child died of complications, Go said.
Go added that he and the President have helped several other children with biliary atresia to undergo transplants in India.
"Lahat ng batang may malalang sakit at kumplikado lumapit lang sa Pangulo lalo anak ng sundalo, tutulungan namin," he said.
(All children who have severe illnesses can approach the President, especially children of soldiers, we will help them.)
