MANILA - Duterte Youth Party-list has renominated former youth commission chair Ronald Cardema as its first nominee even after he was disqualified by the Commission on Elections for being overaged.

Meanwhile, Cardema's wife Ducielle Marie Suarez was named second nominee in the certificate of nomination submitted to the Comelec Tuesday.

Also named as nominees were Guillermo Villareal Jr., Krizza Reyes and Robert Garcia.

Suarez was one of Duterte Youth's original nominees.

On May 12, a day before the elections, all 5 nominees of the group filed their notices of withdrawal along with Cardema’s substitution as the party-list nominee.

Cardema earlier said the Duterte Youth nominees withdrew from the elections out of fear of left-leaning groups, which prompted him to petition being a substitute representative.

Duterte Youth won one seat in the May 2019 elections.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon also sought an investigation of Cardema, saying he may have committed a crime when he stated under oath in his certificate of nomination that he is qualified to be a representative of the youth sector in the House of Representatives.

Under the Party-list System Act, a nominee of the youth sector must not be more than 30 years old on the day of the elections.
