MANILA - State weather bureau PAGASA on Monday debunked social media claims that a typhoon called "Maria" will submerge the country due to a strength similar to supertyphoon Yolanda.
"Hindi po siya totoo at magrely lamang tayo sa forecast na nilalabas ng PAGASA, mga updates natin sa website, Facebook, at Twitter," PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said in a press briefing.
(It's not true. Let us rely on forecasts released by PAGASA on our website, Facebook, and Twitter.)
Estareja, however, said a typhoon with an international name of Maria (local name: Gardo) entered the Philippines last year.
