MANILA- Will William Dar return at the helm of the Department of Agriculture?
Dar, who briefly served as agriculture chief during former President Joseph Estrada's term, has been rumored to be the next head of the DA.
But in a phone call with ABS-CBN News, Dar said he has yet to receive any information on his rumored appointment but noted that he was asked to go to Malacañang on Monday at 2 p.m.
A source close to President Rodrigo Duterte meanwhile said Dar has been chosen to replace former Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, who is set to lead the Mindanao Development Authority.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, however, said that while the Office of the President has received several recommendations for the agriculture secretary post, "the President has yet to decide on it."
A horticulturist, Dar served as director-general of the International Center for Research in the Semi-arid Tropics based in India from 1999 to 2014.
Dar also became the first director of the Philippine Bureau of Agricultural Research in 1988 and was designated director of the Philippine Council for Agricultural Research and Rural Development in 1994.
