MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready for the reimplementation of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, police chief Gen. Archie Gamboa said Monday.

In a statement, Gamboa said he has directed all units to immediately establish additional community checkpoints as the capital region and neighboring provinces.

“Our police units in the field are ready to set up more checkpoints in barangays and main thoroughfares as the NCR, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, and Bulacan reverted to MECQ from August 4 to 18 heeding the call of our medical frontliners,” he said.

Gamboa also assured the public that the police will be strictly implementing quarantine protocols during the 15-day MECQ period.

"We appeal to the public in areas under MECQ to stay at home. Ito ay bilang tulong na ninyo sa ating mga medical frontliner, police frontliner, at mga tanod at kawani ng barangay na halos limang buwan nang nakikipagbuno sa pandemya,” he reiterated.

He also urged the public to fully cooperate with authorities.

"We are asking for your full cooperation, to help save lives and to ease the burden of your health and police frontliners," he said.

Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Bulacan will be under MECQ from August 4 to 18.

Under MECQ trains, buses, jeepneys, taxis, ride-hailing services, tricycles are not allowed to operate. Manufacturing plants and other establishments are allowed to operate only with half their capacity.

Quarantine passes are also needed again for those going out of their homes.
