MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday launched its investigation into a predawn raid that killed Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and 14 others.

PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) inspector general Atty. Alfegar Triambulo said he has ordered IAS-Northern Mindanao director Gerry Galvan to submit a report that will serve as basis for the probe.

Triambulo however declined from identifying the number of officials being investigated.

Officers earlier claimed they met violent resistance when they served the search warrants for firearms in the properties of the Parojinog families at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Supt. Lemuel Gonda, spokesperson of the Northern Mindanao police.

The ensuing gun battle left dead Parojinog, his wife,Susan, brother Misamis Occidental board member Octavio Parojinog and 12 others.

Parojinog's daughter, Ozamiz Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog, and her brother were arrested during the raid. They were transferred to the PNP national headquarters in Quezon City Monday.

The vice mayor claimed that operatives fabricated evidence against her family.

A man who survived the raid also alleged that policemen intentionally killed Mayor Parojinog.

PNP chief Director General Bato, for his part, maintained that the operation against Parojinog and his family was legitimate.
