President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said he expects officials he dismissed over corruption allegations to get back at him by filing charges after his presidency.

But he said graft and corruption wouldn’t be among them.

“I’m running out of time. It’s just around the corner and before I know it baka ako rin, ako na rin ipakulong ng mga g***. Pero sigurado ’yan it could not be graft and corruption,” he said in a speech in Taguig City.

“Masiguro ninyo ang tinatanggap ko lang pera ng gobyerno sa totoo lang P200,000. Napakaliit ng sweldo if I may say so. Isa ’yun sa parang nagreklamo ako. Kasi 2 ang pamilya ko — may No. 1 ako, may No. 2 ako. May No. 1 ako, pamilya ni Inday, mga Zimmerman. At itong taga-Bulacan. So ’yang P200,000 ’yan, hati ’yan. Pamilya ang bilangan, hindi naman ang bunganga.”

He reiterated having difficulty ridding the government of corruption, which was one of his campaign promises.

“I am still capable of doing the job maybe but pagod na ako. And especially sadly ’yung sinasabi ko na hindi ko mahabol ang corruption,” Duterte said.

“Maski saan puputok ’yan. And I think that every table in a national or local office that has something to do with discretion, d’yan papasok ang corruption. Basta ’yang may discretion, he can sit on it, on the papers, he can delay it for any reason and it gives rise to so many things corollary to the delays, pera minsan.”

Meanwhile, the President vouched for the “honesty” of former military men in his cabinet, including Isidro Lapeña and Nicanor Faeldon, who both used to head the Bureau of Customs amid controversies.

Duterte had transferred and promoted Lapeña as head of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) amid shabu shipments found in Manila and Cavite in 2018. Meanwhile, it was under Faeldon's helm when a P6.4-billion shabu haul from China slipped past authorities in Manila in May 2017.

“Faeldon, pati si Sid andito, they are really honest. I can vouch for them,” Duterte said.
