MANILA - Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to look into alleged graft and corrupt practices at the Philippine state gaming regulator.
DOJ spokesperson Markk Perete made the announcement in a statement.
President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered gaming operations of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to stop due to "massive corruption."
As of Sunday, police said it has closed a total of 5,187 lotto stores; 13,320 small town lottery kiosks; 2,194 Peryahan ng Bayan outlets; and 472 Keno shops.
The PCSO has said it would ask Duterte to reconsider his order suspending its games.
Malacañang has said the gaming ban will remain until the end of government's investigation into the PCSO.
