Duterte confers award on 7 soldiers hurt in Sulu clashes

MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu on seven soldiers who were wounded in separate clashes with rebels in Sulu.

Duterte visited the wounded soldiers at Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Jolo, Sulu.

Those given the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the rank of Kampilan were Corporal Dixon Aplahal, Corporal Larkin Lumacad, Corporal Binjakar Ajak, Corporal Bernardo Cortiz, Private First Class Reynard Baynos, Private First Class John Jusay, and Private Brix Cojo.

The Kampilan medal is awarded to government personnel and private individuals who are wounded or suffer great loss while taking part in a campaign of the President. 

The soldiers were also given financial aid.

The soldiers were hurt in separate encounters against members of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group last July 11 and 21 in Talipao and Patikul towns in Sulu.
