MANILA - Interim House Majority Leader Fredenil Castro on Friday said Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas will definitely lose his chairmanship of the powerful Rules Committee which determines the agenda of the House.
Castro, however, declined to comment on the chairmanships of Accounts Committee chair Elenita Milagros Ermita Buhain and Justice Committee chair Reynaldo Umali.
He reiterated that any changes to committee chairmanships will be minimal.
The House Committee on Rules automatically goes to the Majority Leader. However, there is still no regularly elected majority leader.
Castro said he expects the majority leader to be elected next week.
The lawmaker said House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will reportedly not make any movement, noting that she told committee chairmen to go back to work on Wednesday.
Castro, meanwhile, urged the blocs vying for the minority leadership to sort out the leadership on their own.
“Ganito lang yan (It's like this), the minority should agree among themselves dahil ayaw pakialaman yan ng majority (because the majority does not want to meddle). They should agree among themselves who shall be minority. It is an issue that will have to be resolved by the minority groups," he said.
