MANILA - Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Monday called out a netizen for telling her how to dress for the annual State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In a Facebook post on her fanpage, Hontiveros posted a screenshot of a tweet telling her to "dress appropriately."
"There’s a place and time to dress like a thirsty slut and a senator of the republic. #CoverUp #SONA2019," the tweet read.
The senator wore a piña barong designed by Joel Acebuche and shoes made in Marikina to the SONA.
Hontiveros lamented the comment she received during the first day of the 18th Congress and said in response, "Stop telling women how to dress. #BawalBastos"
The senator was referring to her legislation "Safe Streets and Public Spaces Act" or the "Bawal Bastos Law," which seeks to impose stiffer penalties on a range of acts from catcalling, sexist slurs, stalking and cyberstalking.
