LAPU-LAPU CITY - Agents of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Region-7 arrested five Korean nationals in two separate raids Wednesday night for operating an illegal online gambling ring.
The five Koreans were arrested in two different rented houses in Barangay Pajo and Marigondon.
"They were not able to present authorization letter from PAGCOR in regards to the legality of their business. And this involves big amount of money,” NBI-7 Special Agent Arnel Pura said.
Two subjects of the warrants namely Kim Young Rok and Ji Yong Jim were not present. Both are in Manila, the NBI said.
During the raid, NBI agents confiscated several equipment used in the illegal gambling operation including computer monitors, keyboards, internet gadgets, and printers.
Two airsoft guns were also confiscated inside the rooms of the houses.
The group’s clients were mostly Koreans who play sports betting games.
The suspects will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2002.
NBI has yet to check the status of the arrested Koreans at the Bureau of Immigration.
