The United States wants a piece of one of the Duterte administration’s major programs. Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:

Piece of the pie
There is still more to unpack from the results of the bilateral strategic dialogue between Philippines and its long-time ally the United States. The two sides reaffirmed their defense and security ties amid Chinese militarization in the region. Also, many issues were discussed including counter terrorism amid extremist activities, the South China Sea and the willingness of the US to be part of the Duterte administration’s "Build, Build, Build" program. China might already have a leg up on the US in its involvement in the Duterte administration’s infrastructure program. But the entry of the US could stir the local business scene.

Obeying the law
Presidential mouthpiece Salvador Panelo said President Duterte will be first to obey the new law imposing stiffer penalties on catcalling, sexist slurs, stalking and other lewd acts. Panelo said Duterte was never “bastos” (uncouth). Women’s group Gabriela disagreed. The group said implementing the law would be difficult with Duterte as president. The Chief Executive will be in an event in Davao City at 9 a.m.

Gaming the Games
The Palace said President Duterte would soon issue an executive order formally designating the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to organize the November Southeast Asian Games. Is there time to finish everything? How much of the preparations have actually been completed? The Palace also said the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Foundation headed by Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano can be probed over alleged corruption.

Respectable close
The market closed down on Tuesday, succumbing to sellers after stepping into bull market territory. It closed at 8,263, still a respectable close, with volume at P9.8 billion. Can the index stay in bull market territory with this pullback and make a push for the 8,500 level? On the hand, the peso closed strong at 50.90, the strongest in 18 months.

Wall canvass
Famous for painting monsters in urban settings, Pow Martinez's murals are on the walls of a staircase of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Working over two weeks, the artist created various images including that of exposed men, boating skeletons, and an imagined war.
