MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday 59 more Filipinos abroad caught COVID-19, raising the total tally of overseas infections among Philippine nationals to 8,974.
The foreign ministry said the respiratory illness also killed 15 more overseas Filipinos, pushing the death toll to 633.
The number of COVID-19 survivors is also up by 10 to 5,321, it added.
“With these new developments, the DFA shall continue to keep track of the status of Filipinos abroad and stands ready to earnestly assist and facilitate repatriations, whenever possible,” the agency said in a statement.
To date, some 3,020 Filipino patients abroad are undergoing treatment for COVID-19, broken down as follows by region: 128 in the Asia Pacific Region, 498 in Europe, 2,274 in the Middle East and Africa and 120 in the Americas.
In the Philippines, the novel coronavirus has so far sickened 61,266 people, with 1,643 deaths and 21,440 recoveries.
