Some of the country's best hospitals are running out of beds for COVID-19 patients. Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:

'Pandemic czars'
Big hospitals like St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig and Quezon City and the Makati Medical Center have declared full capacity in treating COVID-19. Some hospitals are also close to full capacity. The number of confirmed cases breached the 57,000 mark just as the Palace introduced new "pandemic czars".

Barangay level
President Duterte is set to announce new quarantine policies on July 15. With the continued rise of cases, it's unlikely Metro Manila will transition to a more relaxed quarantine. Meanwhile, the PNP will start enforcing health protocols at the barangay level with policies similar to the crackdown on loitering.

Backlash
The 11 representatives who voted for the ABS-CBN franchise are likely to experience backlash from the leadership of the House of Representatives. Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto said she is ready for the backlash. Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who had a radio program in the network, suggested it was time to move on from the "killing" of the network's franchise. And over 700 media practitioners expressed support for the network.

Strong statement
Just as the country marked the fourth anniversary of the arbitral win over China's claims in the West Philippine Sea, the Chinese embassy in the Philippines maintained that the ruling was "illegal" and "invalid." Maritime expert Jay Batongbacal said the recent statement of Foreign Affairs Sec. Teodoro Locsin Jr. reaffirming the country's adherence to the award "without the possibility of compromise or change" was the strongest statement on the issue and was a long time coming.
