30 more overseas Filipinos contract COVID-19; total climbs to 8,792

MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday 30 more Filipinos abroad caught COVID-19, raising the total tally of overseas infections among Philippine nationals to 8,792.

The foreign ministry said the respiratory illness also killed 2 more overseas Filipinos, pushing the death toll to 592.

The number of COVID-19 survivors from the group is also up by 17 to 5,254, it added.

“With these new developments, the DFA shall continue to keep track of the status of our nationals abroad and stands ready to earnestly assist and facilitate repatriations, whenever possible,” the agency said in a statement.

To date, some 2,946 Filipino patients abroad are undergoing treatment for COVID-19, broken down as follows by region: 120 in the Asia Pacific Region, 484 in Europe, 2,222 in the Middle East and Africa, and 120 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the novel coronavirus has so far sickened 51,754 people, with 1,314 deaths and 12,813 recoveries.
