MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte's record-high satisfaction rating amid the Recto Bank incident proves that more Filipinos trust his "honest intentions," Malacañang said Tuesday.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the survey was done from June 22 to 26, a few weeks after a Chinese ship sunk a Filipino boat near Recto Bank, which he said Duterte's critics used to "pulverize him."
"The more they hit PRRD (Duterte) with dirt, the more people trust him. The more the Left assault him with a torrent of false narratives, the greater our people admire him," Panelo said in a statement.
"The reality is unmistakable. More and more Filipinos, even former cynics, are believing in the President's honest intentions for our nation."
Panelo had earlier said Duterte’s popularity will remain unscathed despite criticism on his handling of Manila’s maritime dispute with Beijing.
Duterte on Monday shrugged off his 80 percent satisfaction rating, saying he was only doing his job.
