Three government officials in Manila tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso said, as he urged his constituents to continue practicing precautions against the viral disease.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Manila Public Information Office said Moreno announced the development during the flag-raising ceremony at the city hall. The capital's chief however did not identify the officials and their positions.
“Today is one of the saddest moments of our city government because three of our key officials in the City of Manila has been infected by COVID-19,” Moreno said.
The city mayor said the officials have since been isolated and are now undergoing treatment. He added that contact tracing and targeted testing activities are now being carried out for those who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
“We have three, and sad to say, we were exposed again—Vice Mayor and I were exposed because these are key personnel that we meet day-in and day-out, every hour, every day of our duties, that's why we really have to be careful,” Moreno said.
He added that although he and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan were “exposed” to the three officials, they have tested negative for COVID-19.
He said “mass testing operation via swab test” will continue in the city.
As of Friday, about 147,071 rapid tests and 14,893 swab tests have been conducted by the city government.
“Gusto kong ipaalala sa lahat na talagang pong napakadelikado ng COVID-19, at lagi kong pinapaalala na ito'y walang pinipiling tao, walang pinipiling katayuan sa buhay—bata, middle aged, matanda; may sakit o wala; malusog o hindi; sikat o hindi; may kapangyarihan o wala; lahat pwedeng maexpose sa virus na ito,” he said.
(I just want to remind everyone that COVID-19 is really dangerous. We always remind people that regardless of age and status, whether you are healthy or not, popular or not, in power or not, you may contract the disease.)
“It's really dangerous and we really have to take care of ourselves. Practice simple things," he added.
