MANILA – House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has accepted the offer to become the consultant of newly-elected Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda.
Arroyo, who is set to finish her third and last term as Pampanga’s 2nd district congresswoman, said she will continue to serve her province.
"Hindi pa ako aalis sa Pampanga government, kasi siyempre si governor ang nag offer sa akin noon. Gusto ko siguraduhin na sa incoming ay OK sa kanya,” she said at the sidelines of the oathtaking of Pampanga government officials Saturday.
(I will not leave the Pampanga government. Of course, it’s because governor Pineda offered me the job. I want to make sure the incoming officials are good with him)
Pineda, who served as Pampanga vice-governor, will replace his mother, Lilia, who is poised to serve as vice-governor this year.
For Pineda, having a former president and lawmaker as a consultant is a great honor.
"Siguro sa istorya po ng Pilipinas ako na po 'yung pinakaswerte. Siguro walang makakagawang consultant niya is former president and House Speaker,” he said.
(Well I guess in the history of the Philippines I am lucky; no one has ever had a consultant who was a former president and house speaker.)
Pineda said he will prioritize health and education during his term as governor.
