MANILA - The all-out distribution of the second tranche of cash aid under the social amelioration program (SAP) during the coronavirus pandemic has already started, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Monday.
"Ngayon pong June 22...nagsimula na po tayo full-blast sa lahat ng region, kasama na yung National Capital Region, pati na yung pagbibigay sa mga hindi nagbigyan noong unang tranche na umaabot sa 5 milyon. Pero sa pag-validate po natin, umaabot lang ito ng 4.2 million," Año said in a public briefing in Malacanang streamed late Monday night.
(Today June 22...we have started full-blast in all regions, including the National Capital Region, and those who were not given aid during the first tranche numbering around 5 million. But when we validated this, families who did not receive assistance were only 4.2 million.)
Government has distributed a total of P6.7 billion worth of subsidies to poor income households and families in the second tranche, according to Año.
"We expect po na within this week ay matatapos po natin itong lahat."
(We expect that within this week, we will be able to finish all of these.)
He however said that the second round of subsidies already started last June 11 and that beneficiaries of the government's Pantawid ng Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) received financial assistance first.
He added the latest wave of financial assistance in the Cordillera Region, Ilocos Region and Central Luzon also started on June 15.
The government has allotted a P200-billion emergency package for poor families to help them tide over the COVID-19 crisis.
Millions of workers and businesses lost income after the Philippines implemented lockdowns throughout the country in March to stem the spread of COVID-19.
