MANILA (UPDATE) — A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the waters off Davao Oriental on Thursday afternoon, Phivolcs said.
It was previously recorded at magnitude 6.6 but was later downgraded by Phivolcs.
The tremor struck at 4:50 p.m. approximately 172 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town, with a depth of 134 kms.
The temblor was tectonic in origin.
Intensity 3 was felt in Kiamba and Glan, Sarangani, while Intensity 2 was felt in General Santos City.
Intensity 1 was also felt in Zamboanga City.
The following instrumental intensities were also recorded:
- Intensity 3 - Kiamba & Malungon, Sarangani
- Intensity 2 - Alabel, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato; General Santos City; Koronadal City
- Intensity 1: Zamboanga City
The Phivolcs said aftershocks may occur. No damage has so far been reported.
