MANILA - The elderly and the youth should stay home even in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), Malacañang said Thursday after the government's inter-agency task force (IATF) on pandemic response revised its protocol for the movement of persons.
Previously, all persons in MGCQ areas are allowed to go out of their homes as long as they wear face masks and observe physical distancing.
The latest IATF resolution, however, revised this protocol to require the following to stay home again:
- Youth (those below 21 years old)
- Elderly (those who are 60 years old and above)
- Those with health risks
- Pregnant women
Prevailing exemptions for the said individuals, however, will continue such as for senior citizens who are employed or those who have to go out to buy basic goods.
Except for Metro Manila, Pangasinan province, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Davao City, and Zamboanga City, which are under general community quarantine, all areas in the country have been placed under MGCQ beginning June 1.
The MGCQ is the transition point to the "new normal" amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
