MANILA – A man who owned up to viral videos that linked President Rodrigo Duterte and his family to the illegal drug trade is under "protective" police custody after he turned himself in, authorities said Monday.

Peter Joemel Advincula, who claimed he was the hooded man "Bikoy" in the videos, "surrendered himself" on May 27, 2 days after he was freed on bail on fraud charges, said Major Gen. Amador Corpus, chief of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Advincula turned over his cellphone and his desktop computer which supposedly contain his conversations with various people, said General Oscar Albayalde, the national police chief.

Advincula earlier said in a press briefing at the PNP headquarters that his allegations in the video series “Ang Totoong Narco List” were all lies supposedly orchestrated by the opposition Liberal Party and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, an outspoken Duterte critic.

Opposition members denied Advincula's allegations and threatened to file charges against him.

Police are investigating whether Advincula could be charged over the videos, Albayalde said.
