MANILA - The waste shipment from Hong Kong dumped at a port in Misamis Oriental will be shipped back on June 3, an official said Friday.
John Simon, port collector at the Mindanao International Container Terminal, said the garbage arrived in February and was misdeclared as electronic accessories.
He said the consignee, who had an address in Pasay City, abandoned the shipment when authorities found it contained electronic waste such as computer parts.
Malacañang earlier assured the Hong Kong waste would be returned to the Chinese administrative region.
It was the latest in a string of illegal garbage exports to the Philippines following those from Canada, Australia and South Korea.
After some 5 years, the Philippines sent back the trash from Canada early Friday.
Manila is also preparing to return garbage shipments from South Korea, while the Customs bureau has been ordered to issue a warrant of seizure and detention for the shipment from Australia.
