MANILA - The Philippines' BRP Davao Del Sur is finally homebound after it was forced to go back to India due to a storm.

The naval vessel resumed its voyage back to the country Wednesday along with newly-repaired BRP Ramon Alcaraz, the Philippine Navy said in a statement.

The two vessels will make a stop at the port of Colombo in Sri Lanka on May 29 to bring home 12 more Filipino tourists and overseas workers stranded due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They will join 19 other repatriates from India inside the Davao Del Sur.

The BRP Davao Del Sur originally left for Manila on May 9 and already reached Sri Lanka when it was forced to go back to India due to a storm.

The delay also gave enough time for the BRP Ramon Alcaraz to catch up and undergo repairs.

India provided assistance to the Philippine Navy.
