MANILA- Classes for the school year 2019-2020 will open on June 3 with over 27 million expected enrolees, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said Wednesday.
Briones said the Department of Education (DepEd) is expecting a total of 27,817,737 enrolees from Kindergarten to Grade 12, higher by 2.95 percent from last school year's 27,018,509.
"Talagang nag-iimprove na ang participation rating ng ating mga kabataan from kindergarten to junior, and senior high kasi dati pababa ng pababa," she told reporters during a Palace press briefing.
(The participation rating of our students from kindergarten to junior and senior high is improving because it was declining in the past.)
Many of the expected enrollees are from public schools, Briones said. She, however, did not provide specific figures.
For S.Y. 2019 to 2020, classes are scheduled to end on April 3, 2020, while the Christmas break will run from Dec. 15, 2019, until Jan. 6, 2020.
Summer or remedial classes meanwhile will begin on April 13, 2020 to May 22 of the same year.
There are a total of 61,916 schools nationwide ready to cater to students for the incoming school year. Of the said figure, 47,025 are DepEd schools, Briones said.
