MANILA- Twenty-seven politicians with alleged links to the illegal drug trade were among the winners for local posts in the midterm elections, the Philippine National Police said Monday.

Police General Oscar Albayalde, chief of the PNP, said some of the winning "narco-politicians" were elected mayor and governor.

Of the 47 local politicians included in the narco-list, 37 sought local government posts while 27 won, he said.

Some of the winning narco-politicians came from Central Luzon and the Southern Tagalog region, Albayalde explained.

Albayalde said police are still investigating alleged narco-politicians who won during the May 13 polls.
