MANILA—One of the lawyers alleged to have had a hand in covering up the hazing death of a law student was voted provincial board member in the 5th district of Cavite.
Alston Kevin Anarna's 89,848 votes landed him the second seat in the district's board.
"Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa inyong tiwala at suporta," Anarna said in a Facebook post.
The lawyer, who marketed himself with the campaign hashtag "#HusayGalingAtTalino" (excellence, skill and intelligence), was among the Aegis Jvris fratmen who discussed in a chat group how the fraternity could get away with Horacio Castillo's death during his initiation rights in 2017.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri earlier described the fratmen involved in the cover-up as criminal-minded.
"Parang sindikato, they’re acting like a criminal syndicate, reminiscent of drug syndicates and triads," said Zubiri.
As of May 2018, 10 members of the fraternity who were charged for violating the anti-hazing law were transferred to the Manila City Jail.
