MAGUINDANAO – More than 2,000 families in the town of Datu Salibo in Maguindanao were affected by floods after the Butalo River overflowed its banks amid heavy rains.
An estimate of 2,329 families were affected in the town of Datu Salibo, said Abi Unos, municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer.
The seven affected villages are Pindetin, Ganoy, Tee, Andavit, Butilen, Sambulawan, and Animao.
The flooding started four days ago due to rains brought by an inter-tropical convergence zone.
Although the homes of the affected families were submerged in floods, they did not evacuate because they want to guard their personal belongings and animals.
The Pagatin Elementary School has been submerged in floods for a week now.
Floods also affected into the national highway.
The local government unit of Datu Salibo is appealing for food assistance for the affected families.
