MANILA -- Agusan del Norte Governor Angelica Amante-Matba defeated her brother Erlpe John Amante in his reelection bid as representative of their province's second district in the House of Representatives.
Amante-Matba got 120,068 votes, almost twice more than the 69,623 votes for her brother, according to a tally from the Commission on Elections that has counted 100 percent of the votes.
Amante-Matba backed the mayoral run in Cabadbaran of her brother's wife Judy Chin-Amante against his alleged mistress Katrina Marie Mortola.
Chin-Amante secured 26,585 votes against Mortola's 18,891.
The presumptive new mayor was quoted as saying in a Philippine Star report last year that her husband supposedly introduced Mortala as his “soulmate” as he went around barangays.
Erlpe Amante is a member of the Liberal Party while his sister belongs to PDP-Laban party chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte.
