MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday lashed out at an unnamed mayor for supposedly bullying a candidate during his speech at his political party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan’s (PDP-Laban) miting de avance in Pasig City.
He did not mention a name, but ranted about political dynasty. “Ito kasing Pilipinas, the politics here are being claimed by the elite, ‘yung mga mayayaman na matagal na sa politika at pabalik-balik na lang,” he said.
His statement drew cheers from Pasig residents.
The city's mayoral race involves a heated rivalry between 29-year-old councilor Vico Sotto and incumbent mayor Bobby Eusebio, whose family has been in power since 1992.
Sotto has been crying foul over supposed bullying in his campaigns, making it hard for him to secure permits to conduct rallies.
“Pinapatayan ng ilaw, walang stage?” Duterte said.
“Patay ka. Itong a***** na ito, pinapalusot ko lang eh,” Duterte said.
He warned: “‘Yung ganon na klaseng politiko, bastos ‘yun, you do not belong in politics. Bantay ka sa akin. Do you want me to embarrass you before your constituents? Just let me know, I will do it.”
The event was PDP-Laban’ final push to lay down its platforms, primarily to continue the administration’s crackdown on drug crime and corruption, for a chance for bigger voter awareness after the 3-month campaign period.
“I’d like to say that we must have law and order before we can really be a nation that is safe and secure for our people,” Duterte said. “We must be freed of corruption in the government.”
PDP-Laban members at the miting de avance, which they call MaBaGoKoTo, were former top cop Bato Dela Rosa, Duterte’s close aide Bong Go, Maguindanao congressman Dong Mangudadatu, senator Koko Pimentel, and former presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino.
Pimentel, the party president, boasted PDP-Laban’s edge as dominant majority party, as declared by the Commission on Elections on Thursday.
