MAKATI – A Makati court has sentenced to life imprisonment a Chinese drug suspect for selling 2.28 kilos of shabu in 2018.

Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 63 Judge Selma Alaras found Shi Jianjia guilty of violating section 5 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, based on testimonies of police and investigation agents who conducted the buy-bust operation.

Shi Jianjia was arrested on March 23, 2018 at a home supplies store in Makati for selling 2.28 kilos of shabu worth P3 million to a poseur buyer. The poseur buyer, an investigation agent, identified him in court.

The Chinese insisted he was framed up but the court did not buy his defense.

“[A]gainst the accused culpability, accused Shi Jianjia could only offer bare denial. Given the evidence available in this case, the prosecution was able to prove with moral certainty that accused Shi Jianjia is guilty of the offense as charged,” read the decision.

Aside from life imprisonment, Shi Jianjia was also sentenced to pay a fine of P500,000.

Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera welcomed the decision.

“The conviction of Shi Jian Jia, the 5th Chinese in 5 months, shows anew the DOJ’s determination to prosecute all drug lords, foreign and domestic,” he said.

An Olongapo court in December 2018 convicted 4 Chinese involved in operating a floating shabu laboratory off the coast of Subic for possession of illegal drugs. They were sentenced to life imprisonment.
