MANILA — Two Chinese nationals who are wanted in Beijing for "engaging in illegal propaganda" have been arrested in Mandaluyong City, the Bureau of Immigration said Monday.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the suspects as Hong Webin, 34, and Li Cheng, 36. The 2 were arrested last Thursday by Immigration agents at their condominium unit.

89.92The bureau received information from the Chinese Embassy in Manila that the 2 suspects are wanted in China for "distributing obscene materials" on the Internet and "engaging in illegal propaganda," said Morente.

The suspects will be blacklisted by the BI to prevent them from reentering the Philippines, said Morente.

Both Hong and Li arrived in Manila as tourists last October 2018 and have been hiding since.

BI-Fugitive Search Unit chief Bobby Raquepo said the 2 are considered undocumented aliens as their passports had been cancelled by the Chinese government.

The fugitives are currently held at the bureau's detention facility in Taguig City, pending deportation proceedings.
